What is Afrorave? Is Lasmid creating a brand-new subgenre of Afrobeat?

Lasmid

Last week friday , “Friday Night” hitmaker Lasmid, was on tv3 to  discusses his musical career and the Afro-Rap genre.

After Rema of Nigeria and Toya Delazy of South Africa, Lasmid is the most recent and sole performer from Ghana to claim the emerging musical style known as “Afrorave.”

Per what we deciphered, Afrorave is a subset of Afrobeat, a term used to describe sounds from West Africa. And as Lasmid confirmed on TV3 NewDay, “Afro-raving. It’s a combination of Highlife, Hip-hop, hip-life… everything. It is versatile.”

Lasmid also spoke about his journey from school, participating in MTN Hitmaker and working whilst dreaming of music.

“My father wanted me to attend school, but I had no desire to do so. I was surrounded by music. I was always doing songs. When I’m at work, I’ll be singing and composing, and that’s where I noticed PP Black and Nii Kotey. They said I could handle it.

I was trained because I was signed to highly Spiritual music after Hitmaker (2019). I also collaborated on a tune with Kofi Kinaata (of the Odo Brassband) after a year.

Along with others, Lasmid has recorded tracks with Mr. Drew, Dead Peepol, and Kuami Eugene.
Keep in mind that it is “Friday Night!”
