Music royalties is the bonus or money every music owner received when their song which is licensed with an agency is being used for commercial purposes. 

The institution which is responsible for the collection of artistes royalties is The Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO). This institution represents the rights of musical copyright of music owners in Ghana. 

When it comes to artistes collecting their music royalties here in Ghana, these artistes find it difficult to get their monies or they don’t receive the rightful amount they suppose to get after their songs are being used for commercial purposes. 

Stonebwoy who went to meet the high commissioner to the UK, Papa Owusu Ankomah complained that he has received only 2000 cedis as royalty for all his songs he has released in his entire life. 

Couple of artistes here in Ghana has been complaining about their royalties. It has become a problem here in the music industry space. According to GHAMRO, the lack data to track how artistes songs are being used. 


Music duo R2bees has also shared the amount they have received The Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO)  from after being in this music space for a decade. 

According to R2bees, they haven’t received any royalties from their music in Ghana from The Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) in their new interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz fm on Daybreak show.

He also said that,  GHAMRO has invited them to come and receive some cheque. Their last check their manager did on their music royalties, they were supposed to take 100 cedis as their royalties. 

He Said; 

We’ve never received royalties in Ghana before. However, we’ve been invited a couple of times to come receive a cheque. According to our manager, the last time he checked, we were supposed to go for GHS 100.
